What you eat will surely affect your brain, because "you are what you eat". Where's the brain-matter going to come from, otherwise? They say humans made a great leap ahead when 'cooking food' was discovered, as they had more energy to think/recreate rather than chew/digest. But with the whole range of wonderful foods available today, the modern diet (if properly used) can lead to even better health. As a caveman, one may not have been able to do without meat, but in today's world with the complete protein found in chia seeds, and the amazing nutrition of algae no one should have to consume the hormone and pharmacutical-ridden unhealhtyness of meats. Part of being smart is looking out for #1! Unrelated: your cow photo is adorable.

oh i love this article! and renee, flax seeds are great but you should really try chia seeds. they are similar to flax but actually way better. they have a higher concentration of omega-3 than any other natural source, they are loaded with fiber, antioxidants, and a bunch of other nutrients...they are basically a must have for vegetarians! i get mine from www.thechiaseed.com and they have a lot of good info on their site too.

My son is ridiculously smart and I attribute a lot of that to the ground flax that I gave him in all of his home made baby food. The first two years of a child life are crucial for brain development and the omegas are significant in ensuring that the child properly flourishes. My son is amazing...it is a little scary!!
